“Ever Thought About Telling Your Top Home Business To Take a Hike?”

Posted February 14th, 2010 by Judi LaPoint

Bird finger to your top home based businessSome days it is tempting just to call it quits at your at home based business. Your attempt to earn extra income from home has sure turned out to be a lot harder than it looks.  There should be a warning sign on the websites of all Internet Gurus  - “Warning — Do not try this at Home!”

If you are brave enough to give a work from home company a go — you’ll sometimes find yourself struggling mightily to not get “snagged” by the siren song of the next big business home Internet marketing lure. And it’s funny, because on one hand they all tell you to focus with your home based small business, but then they tempt your with bigger, better, and different on the other.

Sometimes you just want to throw in the towel with your at home based business!  As the youngster in the picture so emotionally seems to say “bugger off!” (Don’t you wonder where he could have learned this behavior?)

Believe me when I say — “I can relate!”  When I was first starting out, there were days that went into the wee hours of the morning, with seemingly no progress.  But what I’ve always known is that hard work pays off — especially hard work with a plan.

It does no good to work hard without a plan.  So sometimes you just need to take a new fresh look.  Here are a couple of tips I use to make sure I’m on the right track.

1.  Take a step back — move away from the trees for a moment so you can see the entire forest.

Take your top home business plan off the shelf or out of the drawer, or out of whatever file folder you’ve got it in. (You do have a business plan — don’t you?) Take some time to really reflect — is this plan still solid?  Is it still what you want to do? Has anything come along that would cause you to significantly change your plan? If there are changes that need to be made, make them. Then recommit to your plan.

2. Take a look at your non-work life.

Really consider how you are coping with the at home based business.  How’s your health? Do you get enough exercise — do you ever even take a stretch break? Good grief — it won’t do you any good if you make a boat load of money, but you’re too unhealthy to enjoy any of it.  How about the relationship with the family?  Again, there is no point in building a dream if your family life is in the pits. If you’ve got areas that are in need of attention, then pay attention.

3.  Just take some time away.

Read a book, go for a hike, watch a movie, go to a football game.  Make sure you’ve got balance in your life.  All work and no play not only made “Jack a dull boy” as well as unhealthy, unhappy, and lonely!

So if you’re thinking about giving your at home based business and everyone and everything in your life the “bird” – take some time to get back into perspective.
